Brooklyn-based drummer, percussionist, and songwriter Ben Teters was born into a family of musicians and began honing his craft at the age of seven. By 15, he had formed his first band, setting the foundation for a lifelong career in music. A 2012 graduate of Berklee College of Music, Ben studied under world-renowned drummers Kenwood Dennard, Mike Mangini, and Mark Walker, further refining his deep pocket, technical mastery, and rhythmic versatility.

Since moving to New York City, Ben has become an integral part of the local and international music scene, balancing an active schedule of touring, recording, and performing. His rock-solid groove and seamless fusion of Afro-Latin rhythms, reggae, funk, and jazz have led him to work with an impressive roster of artists, including Satsang, Sidney Mills (Steel Pulse), electric blues artist Seth Walker, America’s Got Talent finalist Cas Haley, legendary bassist Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon), Grammy Award-winning artist Chris Berry, award-winning dance troupe Dorrance Dance, and Afrobeat jazz ensemble The Brighton Beat, among others.

Beyond his work as a sideman, Ben is a founding member of Brooklyn-based reggae outfit SunDub, whose music blends roots reggae with elements of soul and blues. Their debut album, Burden of Love (2019), introduced their warm, groove-driven sound to a growing audience. In 2022, they followed up with Spirits Eat Music, an album that further showcases their evolution, featuring collaborations with Peetah Morgan (Morgan Heritage).

In addition to performing, Ben is the founder of Jackson Yard Records, an independent label dedicated to supporting artists across reggae, roots, and world music genres. With a focus on high-quality production and artist-driven creativity, Jackson Yard Records serves as a platform for both emerging and established musicians, helping them bring their unique sounds to a wider audience.

Ben is available for touring, teaching, and recording, including remote recording sessions from his home studio in New York City.

Live For Live Music

“AFRICANO ON BASS AND TETERS ON DRUMS DOMINATE THE LOW-END, SEEMINGLY LOCKED IN A STATE OF SYNCHRONICITY. A STEEL PAN MELODY LAYS ATOP THE RHYTHM SECTION, HIGHLIGHTED BY HORNS THROUGHOUT. THE LYRICS ILLUSTRATE THE ARTIST’S CONSCIOUSNESS, DELVING DEEP INTO HIS THOUGHTS ABOUT LIFE AND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN.
